I... am dancing around like a complete idiot. After nearly 2 days of being hunched at my computer (plus this 8 hour break called 'work'), I have finally, FINALLY finished my first digital piece EVER! WEEEEE! I'm very surprised it turned out this decent. Yes, alot of things aren't exactly perfect, but I'm working on it.
Now then, the title was ganked from a Saiyuki anime episode where Konzen and Goku first meet. It's really cute, and the Merciful Goddess had one of my favorite lines for her: "Hair like the sun... what a truly perfect pick-up line!" AHAHAHA!! That's her flipping nephew she's talking about. Anyway, I did all the line art by hand using ink, then filled it in from there. I used the smudgy tool to shade everything, including the pain in the ass skin. The chains turned out amazing. I have no idea how I did that. And... I discovered a fun little brush called 'sparks' Hehe... guess who went to town with that feature?
And now the fun part: I really want to thank a few people who kicked me in the arse, offered advice and ultimately are to blame for me even sitting down in the first place to make this. Thank you a million times over to The Silver Raven for the awesome instructions, advice, friendly critiquing, and most importantly for introducing me to this program to begin with. Your patience with my questions was truly appreciated, and your art work was just the thing I needed to drop the charcoals and try this out. BlahsBlah2001, thank you very much for the encouragement, and for also pointing out it really isn't as hard as I'm making it. THANK YOU FOR SAVING THE REST OF MY HAIR! And, finally, Luthien Ikari, I owe you lots of hugs and thanks for mentioning first that I don't need to outline the damn thing on the computer. When I thought I had to, I almost cried!
Anyway, fire away, please point out any tips for future projects, give me advise, but remember this is only my FIRST ATTEMPT, so keep the negativity friendly, pleeeease?
WOW!!! I just posted this about three seconds ago! Thanks for the fave This is actually something sort-of from my favorite anime. It's called Saiyuki. Basically, this part of the story took place in heaven during everyone's past lives. Goku (the owner of the hand) was brought up from earth because he's a one-of-the-kind demon. Konzen (the owner of the hair) is the nephew of the Merciful Goddess and he's bored with heaven, so it's making him really cranky.
Well, Goku meets him and is all kinds of cute and says, "Your hair... it looks like the sun!"
And Konzen's like, "The sun?" Again, he's very grumpy.
So Goku reaches out to touch it... and pulls too hard. A huge chunk falls out and Konzen lays the pain onto the little cutie!
Obviously, this is just before the hair being ripped out part!
Sorry for the long reply, but I'm so excited I got a fave on my FIRST digital piece! Thanks again!

Well, for a first attempt, it's lovely. Much better than my first attempts were... I haven't even published any of them. If you have a program that uses layers, I'd definately use them. And here's a very useful tip: Put your line art on the top layer, then delete the white spaces, so all you have is black. Then, add layers underneath to color.
The chain and the wristband are definately very cool. Very well done.

Thanks alot! I'll try to remember that for the future. Layers... are a little intimidating and I'm still trying to figure this program out. But I'll definately give it a try on my next go. Thanks again!

Ooo, pretty. I see that you finally got something done, and it does look good! Yes, I like it. I'm guessing you used that handy dandy little Gimp brush for the light specks in the background.
And I do like this. It came out looking almost like a water color; and Goku's hand looks like a hand, which is wonderful (not saying that you can't draw hands, just saying that hands are...well, I stick them in the category of feet and noses. They're just evil to draw).
My advice would simply be to work on some shadows *around* the shackle on his wrist. Since I doubt that the iron would be seamless with his skin, there would be at least a small shadow on his skin directly next to the edge of the shackle, and the length would be determined by how thick the iron is.
And good job! For the first one, it is pretty good. Glad you finally figured the digital artwork stuff out!
Thank you VERY MUCH for everything! From suggesting The Gimp to the many, many questions and answers. Just... thanks. AND, the good thing is... I can easily fix that shackle mistake! HURRAY!
